The shared principles, values, commitments, and norms that govern each domain — freely consented to by all sovereign members.
The Field of Agreements is the set of shared agreements that underpin and govern each Domain of Responsibility and Authority. Operating fractally at every scale — from individual to Circle to community to bioregion to planetary — Fields of Agreement contain the fundamental agreements that unite sovereign members and provide the foundation for collective action toward a shared purpose.
Each time sovereigns voluntarily associate, four things naturally and simultaneously emerge:
The Field of Agreements is what holds space for the domain. It is the governance structure — not imposed from above, but freely established by the sovereign members who choose to associate. It defines purpose, principles, practices, boundaries, and commitments. It governs the membrane — what enters, what leaves, and on what terms. It governs the commons — how shared resources are stewarded, contributed to, and accessed.
Without a Field of Agreements, a domain has no shared governance. With one, sovereignty is expressed through freely chosen structure rather than imposed control.
The same structure applies at every scale:
At every level, the agreements are freely consented to by the sovereign members of that domain. At every level, members are free to leave. At every level, the agreements can be consciously evaluated and continuously improved.
