12.16 The Progressive Invention of Hell

When we invoke concepts like Heaven and Hell, God and Satan, it is important to differentiate out at least three different layers of Reality:

1. The underlying Reality
2. The human conception or idea of the underlying Reality
3. The Word Tools used to point to the underlying Reality

With Hell for instance, the Meta Punishment, it is helpful to admit that in regards to the underlying Reality, We Do Not Know, and then to start to trace the development of human conceptualization across time.
