Those who attempt to stand in the middle get the guillotine from the extremists at one side or the other.

Internally between Left and Right, and externally between East and West, the world is forced to choose sides as everyone prepares for war.

The refusal to compromise means that the exercise of power through cold or hot war is inevitable. As fear rises, the sides further entrench, establish minefields, and prepare their weapons of first and last resort.
