Request For Guidance — 1042

Designing and Building Earth's New Civilization

"In the beginning, there was a Request for Guidance."

As the world spirals deeper into the greatest crisis and opportunity in memory, every life and community on Earth hangs in the balance. Week by week, more people are awakening, gathering, and asking the simple question:

What, if anything, should we do?

For those who have seen enough to understand that the existing order is collapsing and cannot — and should not — be saved, the answer is simple:

We must design, build, and embody Earth's New Civilization.

Around 2017, many of us became aware of an emerging "meta crisis" that was anticipated to end in the systemic collapse of the existing order we were born into.

Towards this end, many lifetimes of thought, work, and solutions are converging. All the key puzzle pieces are present. All the requisite relationships lie within one degree. The great question is how we coordinate and weave the diverse many into ØNE cohesive, coherent tapestry that actually works for all Earth's inhabitants.

In 1969, a graduate student named Steve Crocker wrote a document he was embarrassed to publish. He and his colleagues were building something none of them fully understood — a network connecting computers across several universities. They didn't know the right answers. So instead of publishing a specification, Crocker published a question. He called it a "Request for Comments." The name signaled humility: we are not authorities. We are fellow builders who need help seeing what we cannot see alone.

From that posture — rough consensus and running code FAST — the internet emerged.

This document follows the same tradition, adapted for a different scale. It is not a specification. It is a structured invitation to think and act together around what may be the most consequential coordination challenge in human history:

How do we prepare the infrastructure — social, technical, legal, economic, and spiritual — that enables the first few percent of Earth's population to find each other, verify each other, and begin coordinating at planetary scale within the next several months?

No single organization, tradition, or discipline holds the complete picture. But something is converging. Independent builders across dozens of countries, working from different starting points and traditions, are arriving at compatible answers to the same question — often without knowing the others exist. This document attempts to map that convergence and ask for the guidance of those who can see more clearly.

THE PATTERN

Across indigenous, social, technical, and spiritual traditions — across lifetimes of work and research spanning dozens of countries — a common pattern has been recognized in how sovereign beings organize, heal, and co-create together. The same irreducible elements appear in Benedictine monasteries, Mondragon cooperatives, Alcoholics Anonymous, the Iroquois Confederacy, the early church, open source communities, the Swiss Confederation, the Exodus story, and in the traditional governance systems of peoples across every continent.

Spoken in any of ten thousand ways, the pattern is simple:

  1. Sovereign beings
  2. self-organizing into small groups,
  3. making sense of what's happening,
  4. engaging in transformative and aligned action,
  5. sharing stories,
  6. and passing the flame —

in a Way that works for All.

Shared patterns, rhythms, rituals, and protocols enable groups to align into communities, communities into bioregions, and bioregions into planets.

THE TIMING

Direction from elders across multiple traditions consistently points toward the same threshold: the need to connect and empower the first three percent of Earth's population — approximately 250 million people, roughly 300 in every community of 10,000 — by Winter Solstice 2026 at the latest. Within that three percent reside all the capabilities, resources, relationships, and wisdom needed to navigate the storms ahead and bootstrap the transition towards a Way of living that actually works for All.

Signals from spiritual discernment, geopolitical analysis, systems modeling, and pattern recognition across multiple independent sources suggest this timeline may be accelerating. Multiple flags point toward a potential threshold as early as this summer. Many alarm clocks flash "July."

This means we now face a ~120 day sprint to prepare what must be prepared and be ready for anything that might unfold thereafter.

THE MECHANISM

The mechanism for reaching the first few percent is staggeringly simple. Out of the hundred people they know best, each person invites the 2-3 they trust most to step into a shared pattern — a cooperative real-world game that enables sovereign beings to coordinate and move at scale.

The criteria: 1) trusted relationship 2) willing to take immediate action 3) ready to invite 2-3 others into the game.

If the pattern holds — if each person passes the flame within approximately one week — the first three percent is reachable within months, not years. The constraint is trust and consent. We move at the speed of trust. And the shared infrastructure must be ready to support that speed.

THE CONVERGENCE

After what felt like lifetimes of preparation for many, around 2017 many of us received the call and began mapping, preparing, and building towards this. As a consequence, all the puzzle pieces and basic infrastructure needed to support this exponential organic emergence already exist. They have been built independently by sovereign builders who did not yet know they shared an underlying architecture and vision.

Protocol designers. Data architects. Identity coalitions. Privacy researchers. Cooperative movements. Indigenous knowledge keepers. Artists and storytellers. None of these efforts were designed as components of a single system. All of them converge on compatible architectures because they respond to the same underlying reality — the same true pattern that every wise builder eventually discerns.

We are doing this anyway. The builders are building. The elders are gathering. The stories are being woven. This RFG exists to make sure no one who wants to coordinate and play is left behind. There is a place for everyone.

THE PLEDGE: 42 HOURS

In a playful nod to the Ultimate Answer in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, every participant is invited to pledge 42 hours per 6-week cycle — roughly one hour per day — towards the shared work of co-creating the New Civilization. The time can be given however it best fits your life: an hour each morning, deep weekends, however it works for you and your circles.

Alongside the time, every participant contributes something — any amount — to the shared Commons. Even $1. The amount is not the point. The act of placing real value on this is.

These pledges are not symbolic. They immediately create real resources — time and treasure — held in common. Which immediately creates the need for real governance: What do we do with the time and resources we now share?

This is by design. Governance does not begin with a constitution. It begins with a question that can only be answered together. The pledges ensure that from Day One, every Circle is practicing self-governance over real resources, not theorizing about it.

THE SPRINT: THREE CYCLES TO JULY

The puzzle pieces exist. What remains is the work of weaving them into a coherent whole, tested and ready for the speed of trust.

We propose a Sprint composed of three 6-week agile cycles — 18 weeks — beginning immediately:

Cycle 1: COHERE (Weeks 1-6)

What are we building together?

  • Cohere basic agreements, tools, and communication channels
  • Establish the shared Commons and initial governance
  • Launch the 101 Course pilot — structured onboarding into the Pattern and the Game
  • Publish the InterFace Protocol in minimum viable form
  • Map the convergence: connect the builders who don't yet know they're building the same thing
  • Begin forming the first Circles

Cycle 2: BUILD (Weeks 7-12)

Make it work.

  • Bring core infrastructure online: identity, coordination, communication, measurement
  • Second wave of the 101 Course following Earth Day (April 22)
  • Hitchhiker's Guide planetary outreach launch (April 23 — Hitchhiker's Day)
  • Integrate the first federated Commons and Co-Op structures
  • Test, break, fix, iterate — with real Circles doing real work

Cycle 3: READY (Weeks 13-18)

Prepare to scale.

  • Stress-test everything with growing network of Circles and communities
  • Troubleshoot, harden, document
  • Constitutional drafting process opens
  • Prepare for the First Annual Galactic Meeting — July 4, 2026

By July 4, the basic infrastructure — social, technical, legal, economic — should be tested and ready for the organic Fibonacci spread to accelerate through the second half of 2026 towards the Winter Solstice threshold.

THE INVITATION

Everyone has a role. The question is not whether you have the right credentials. The question is whether you are willing to begin.

Mothers and fathers — you are already governing the most important circles on Earth. Your experience IS the governance pattern.

Builders and designers — the custom layers need to be operational within 100 days. AI-assisted development makes small teams capable of extraordinary output.

Elders and knowledge keepers — the Pattern needs your verification. Does this resonate with what your tradition has always known?

Storytellers, artists, and musicians — the invitation must reach across every culture, language, and tradition. Not through advertising. Through resonance.

Community organizers — you know how trust actually works on the ground. We need that knowledge woven into every layer.

Young people — you are not the future. You are here now. The Game needs your energy, creativity, and refusal to accept what the previous generations tolerated.

Anyone who recognizes the pattern — step in. Form a Circle. Pledge your 42 hours. Contribute what you can to the Commons. Choose real work. Pass the flame.

HOW TO RESPOND

Step into the Game. Form or join a Circle of 3-13 people who trust each other. Make the pledge: 42 hours and any contribution to the shared Commons. Choose a Quest — real work that makes life measurably more like Heaven on Earth. Pass the flame to the 2-3 you trust most.

Contribute a puzzle piece. If you are building something that belongs in this picture — a protocol, a platform, a community, a body of research, a governance model, a tradition of knowledge — bring it forward.

Offer guidance. If you see something missing, something wrong, a risk not yet named — say so. The most valuable guidance may come from domains not yet connected to this conversation.

Join the 101 Course. The pilot launches March 21. Twelve weeks of structured learning and practice in community. By the end, you can form a Circle, play the Game, and pass the flame.

THE QUESTION BENEATH THE QUESTION

Can this actually work?

The honest answer: nobody knows. No one has done this before at this scale, in this timeframe, with these stakes. The Fibonacci mathematics works on paper. The Pattern has been tested across dozens of nations. The technology exists. The legal and governance models have centuries of precedent.

But the variable that determines everything is trust. Will the first few trust each other enough to begin? Will each person trust their 2-3 enough to pass the flame? Will the first hundreds and thousands trust the pattern enough to hold when storms arrive?

This is why it is called a Request for Guidance and not a Request for Comments. This is not a finished design awaiting critique. It is an honest mapping of a convergence that appears to be happening whether or not anyone planned it — and an invitation to everyone who holds a piece of the puzzle to bring it forward while the window is open.

The golden seed is ready. The mechanism is simple. The infrastructure is converging. What remains is the act of planting — each one of us, reaching out to the 2-3 we trust most, and beginning.

TECHNICAL ADDENDUM: THE INFRASTRUCTURE MAP

For builders, protocol designers, data architects, and anyone who wants to understand what is already converging beneath the surface.

The following is a preliminary map of the infrastructure being woven together by independent builders across dozens of countries. This is not a specification — it is a snapshot of convergence in motion. Each domain needs 2-3 viable solutions so that no single point of capture or failure exists. Guidance is needed everywhere.

Identity and Trust

The First Person Network — born from Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust, Trust Over IP, the Decentralized Identity Foundation, and OpenWallet Foundation — has developed decentralized, privacy-preserving proof of personhood through Personhood Credentials (issued by communities that know you) and Verifiable Relationship Credentials (issued peer-to-peer between people who know each other). No central database. No biometric harvesting. Zero-knowledge proof verification. A network cooperative (the First Person Cooperative) is being established as governance.

The Internet Identity Workshop community — meeting twice yearly since 2005 — has spent 20 years building the foundational standards (DIDs, Verifiable Credentials, digital wallets, the Trust Over IP protocol stack) upon which this rests.

The human-level protocol: A Circle of people who know each other in person IS a trust graph. The grandmother verified by her neighbors needs no digital credential. One trained person per Circle bridges the digital and human trust layers. No one is involuntarily left behind.

Guidance needed: Fastest path to operational integration between decentralized identity infrastructure and Circle-based trust structures. How to bootstrap trust networks before the infrastructure is mature.

InterFace Protocol

Every sovereign entity — individual, Circle, community, bioregion — needs a way to manage what it shares, with whom, and under what conditions.

IFP (InterFace Protocol) — Each sovereignty has an Interface mediated by an agent (AI or human) managing identity, disclosure tiers, and trust gradients. Designed so core principles can be executed on paper, in person, or with best available agentic technology.

AT Protocol / Atmosphere — the protocol underlying Bluesky, expanding beyond social media. Handles discovery and public expression. Complementary to IFP: AT Proto for public, IFP for private trust-bounded communication.

Trust Over IP (ToIP) Protocol Stack — a four-layer trust protocol modeled on TCP/IP. Twenty years of standards work.

Key insight: The rules of protocol design change fundamentally when intelligent agents mediate. Agents can negotiate, adapt, switch protocols in real time. But protocols must degrade gracefully into human-manageable steps — executable on paper if necessary.

Guidance needed: Formal connection between IFP and First Person. Disclosure tier specification that is both machine-readable and human-comprehensible. Agent mediation without new exploitation vectors.

Privacy and Sovereignty Enforcement

If an AI agent must understand you deeply enough to serve you, that agent becomes the richest target for any adversary. Mathematical and architectural guarantees must ensure no single system can reconstruct the full behavioral profile of a sovereign being. Privacy as architecture, not policy.

Independent researchers are developing approaches based on structural separation of conflicting constraints — delegation and protection must not be collapsed into a single system. Bilateral agreement protocols, zero-knowledge proofs, and information-theoretic bounds on reconstruction. Connected to IEEE 7012, Trust Over IP, and the broader standards ecosystem.

Holofractal Data Architecture

Current — a holofractal data architecture with 10+ years of development. Sovereign data spaces at every level — individual, Circle, community, bioregion, planetary grid. Tested in compliance-demanding contexts (FAA-compliant operations, university systems).

Open Impact — built "API-up" on Current. SDK documentation underway. LIØNSBERG funded the opening sprint (2021-2024) through the Open Future Coalition.

CRDTs (Conflict-Free Replicated Data Types) — each person edits on their own device, all copies eventually converge. Essential for offline-first operation. Leading implementations: Automerge, Yjs.

Oasis — another holofractal data architecture recently brought into dialogue.

Guidance needed: Governance and scalability beyond current usage. Minimum standards of interoperability across the stack. Fork and expansion mechanics.

Coordination and Measurement

Open Impact (built on Current) — serving 300+ organizations across 60+ countries. Individual, organization, and project profiles, measurable goals, progress reporting, resource matching, story sharing, federated network spaces. Built in alignment with the Pattern Language through LIØNSBERG's collaboration with Open Future Coalition and Current.

Communication

Matrix/Element — federated, encrypted, bridges to Signal/Telegram/WhatsApp/Slack. Signal — superior UX for intimate communication. Briar/SimpleX — maximum censorship resistance for extreme conditions. Each serves a different context; the architecture layers them.

Broadcast and Public Expression

AT Protocol/Atmosphere, Podcasting 2.0/RSS, IPFS. All decentralized or federable. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy outreach initiative launches April 23 (Hitchhiker's Day) as a cultural bridge.

Economy and Stewardship

Cyclos (mature open-source mutual credit). Simple ledger (a spreadsheet — how LETS systems operated for decades). Open Money (Michael Linton). Grassroots Economics and proof-points in Kenya. LIØNSBERG Units of Value (LUV) enabled by The Great Game and Open Impact measurement paradigms.

Guidance needed: Interoperability and flows between Circles, communities, bioregions. The bridge towards non-monetary federation economics.

Legal and Governance

LIØNSBERG, the Hitchhiker's Guide IP holders, and other groups are forming a Commons — reflective of consensus patterns from Mondragon, ReGovern, Fair Shares Commons, and others. The first tens of millions of dollars of rights and intellectual work are expected to be placed into this Commons upon joint ratification. Every participant in the Game is invited to take up an equal voice and stake.

Guidance needed: Optimal legal interfaces across diverse jurisdictions. Strategy for interfacing with the Old while protecting sovereignty and bootstrapping the New.

Edge Intelligence and Graceful Degradation

Everything described in this document must work with zero technology in the event of disruption. The same coordination patterns that operate through AI agent swarms must also function via handwritten notes, voice conversations, community gatherings, and — if necessary — rocks, charcoal, carrier pigeons, and smoke signals. The Pattern persists. The technology amplifies and rapidly syncs when available.

For families, children, and elders — one person per Circle bridges the technological and human worlds. Everyone primarily participates through the most ancient technology of all: relationship.

The Pattern Language (Layer 0)

The irreducible foundation upon which everything else rests. Enactable at any technology level, including none.

Compatible patterns exist across many traditions — Mondragon, indigenous governance, commons-based resource management. The question is not which articulation is "right" but how they inform and strengthen each other.

The LIØNSBERG Pattern Language (LIØNSBERG.wiki) is a reasonably comprehensive attempt to distill the essence of the divine blueprints into something immediately localizable and adaptable — ~3 million words across 4,400+ pages, plus a one-page Golden Seed distillation. 12 Elements of Cooperation, 7 Moves to the Game, the Story, the Lexicon, the Circle Guide, the Playbook, the Program Delivery Guide. Freely available and forkable online.

A 12-week "101 Course" structuring onboarding into the Pattern Language and the Game launches March 21. Designed so that anyone completing it can form a Circle, choose a Quest, and pass the flame.
