Predecessor

A Predecessor is a technical term from Integrated Delivery and the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, describing the sequencing of tasks within a complex Program of Action.

A Predecessor is an Activity that must be completed before a dependent Activity can begin. Its counterpart is the Successor — an Activity that cannot begin until the current Activity is complete.

Technical Function

In the LIONSBERG Integrated Delivery System and Lean project management, every Activity in a Network of Commitments is linked to at least one Predecessor and at least one Successor. These logical relationships form the backbone of the Critical Path toward The Goal.

When thousands or millions of Activities are properly linked through their Predecessor and Successor relationships, the total logical network enables:

  • Calculation of the Critical Path
  • Effective Risk Management
  • Pull Planning from Milestones back to present action
  • Identification of Constraint Free work that is ready to execute

See 11.57 A Logical Network of Commitments and Network of Commitments for the full technical framework.

The Deeper Truth: Nothing Can Come First

In the LIONSBERG System, the concept of Predecessors carries a second, fractal meaning that transforms its technical function into a spiritual and philosophical imperative.

There are no Predecessors to beginning to act.

The Meta Quest must lead, and everything else must follow. You do not need more money, more education, more permission, more security, or more time before you begin. The Quest itself is the first Activity. Everything else is a Successor to the decision to arise and move.

Seek First the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.

This is the teaching of 13.9 Nothing Can Come First — that the greatest trap in life is the illusion that something must come before the sacred work of transforming our Selves and our world. The Old World is designed to convince you that its Predecessor chain must be satisfied first: earn enough, learn enough, become secure enough — then act. This is a Pattern of Death. The math does not work. The more you serve the Old, the stronger it becomes.

The Predecessor to The Goal is not preparation. It is Faith. It is the decision to begin.
